What does Purple Mountain PT’s Prolapse Treatment Involve?
We offer you care and treatment methods that combine both hands-on manual therapies to your back, abdomen, pelvis, hips and thighs as well as corrective therapeutic exercise so you can improve your prolapse, pelvic floor dysfunction, hips and abdomen. We also teach you what you need to do to optimize your pelvic organ support, including urinary and defecatory techniques and habits, lifting mechanics, exercises and anything else that would be helpful for your prolapse. Your appointment may be conducted in a private treatment room, mostly receiving hands-on treatments and pelvic floor muscle retraining or we may also elect to have you complete therapeutic exercises in our private gym area. Here we can work on postural corrections, improving your hip and spine mobility, retraining your movement patterns, coordinating your core muscles with your pelvic floor and more. If you would like to learn more about our pelvic organ prolapse physical therapy, call us at (616) 516-4334 or contact us here and we will be in touch with you!
What can you expect with your first appointment? We begin your prolapse treatment with an evaluation:
Because the PTs here at Purple Mountain PT specialize in treating pelvic organ prolapse and provide you whole-body treatments, we will treat the many contributions to your prolapse symptoms (pain, bladder, bowel, intimacy or other symptoms). The goal of effectively resolving your prolapse problems includes…
- Identify the contributions to your prolapse. Often we identify constipation, improper bladder or bowel habits, pelvic floor weakness or stiffness, core muscle imbalances, spasms, fascia restriction (including in the abdomen or pelvis), ineffective breathing patterns, movement patterns that are straining the pelvic support structures and organs, restrictions in your ribcage and thoracic spine, tightness in your hips, scar tissue, diastasis recti abdominis and associated myofascial and joint restrictions.
- Create a unique plan for your specific needs
- Relieve your pain and optimize your organ support system
- Restore your optimal movement patterns to reduce strain on the organs
- Strengthen and coordinate the core muscles and improve flexibility and posture
- Return to your normal activities
Here at Purple Mountain Physical Therapy our specialty areas are treating back pain, pelvic health, prolapse, pelvic floor dysfunction, neck and TMJ disorders. Our experienced therapists have the knowledge and skills to help you reach your goal of getting back to feeling good again. For questions about cost or availability of our PTs, call us at (616) 516-4334 or reach out to us here and we will be in touch.
On your first visit at Purple Mountain PT, we begin with your evaluation...
- We work in a private treatment room where we can understand how your prolapse symptoms began, what makes it worse and your goals.
- Your PT will conduct a full evaluation to determine how we can help you.
- We provide you education and explain what we are finding, what things are worsening your prolapse and how we will treat these things.
- Your goals, ability levels and expectations are crucial to us developing a meaningful treatment plan for you.
- We begin treatment at the first appointment and also provide you with recommendations for what to be doing at home to improve your prolapse.
- At each visit we build on the improvements from the prior visit. We will advance your treatment program according to your body’s needs. Because you are working privately with your physical therapist for 55-minute appointments, together you and your PT will develop a strong relationship and understanding for how to best get you long-term relief of prolapse symptoms including bulge, urinary, bowel or intimacy challenges so you can be active and feel good again.

The Purple Mountain Physical Therapy Specialized Prolapse Physical Therapy Methods:
Your physical therapy experience with us is highly customized to your needs. Every appointment at Purple Mountain PT is 55-minutes in length and private (one-on-one) with your physical therapist.
We set aside a full hour to treat you so we can provide you whole-body, comprehensive treatment. This is very different than when working with other providers who:
- provide shorter appointments and less treatment
- use aides or lesser trained staff to work with you during an appointment
- do not specialize in treating prolapse,
- do not provide whole body care and
- are not trained in the manual therapy methods we use such as scar tissue work, myofascial release and visceral mobilization.
We never leave your side for the entire appointment because it is very important that you are well supported, instructed and properly cared for during your appointment.
When you exercise, for example, we are with you to teach you how to move effectively, the ways to coordinate your pelvic floor muscles with breathing and to direct how to improve your pelvic organ support through movement. With our physical therapists you will receive gentle, hands-on treatments including myofascial release, visceral mobilization, trigger point release, joint mobilizations and other manual therapy treatments to improve your fascia and muscular supports to your prolapse.
