Specialized Physical Therapy is a Natural Treatment for Male Urinary Incontinence

Have you considered pelvic physical therapy for your male urinary incontinence issues?

We are physical therapists who specialize in providing holistic and natural treatment for male urinary incontinence.  Most men are familiar with physical therapy for a back, hip or knee problem, but less often have you heard of physical therapy to help urinary incontinence.  If you are reading this and looking for natural solutions to your male incontinence, bladder spasms, dribbling, bladder urgency and frequency or pelvic, bladder or perineal pain, our licensed physical therapists can help you.  Our specialized physical therapists provide natural bladder control and pelvic physical therapy treatment for male incontinence in-person at our clinic in Grand Rapids or via telehealth, for those who qualify.  If you would like to learn more about our physical therapy for male incontinence, offered in-person in Grand Rapids or via telehealth, call our office today at 616-516-4334 to speak with one of our staff members or contact us here.

We are Purple Mountain Physical Therapy, a pelvic health specialty physical therapy clinic helping men who have urinary incontinence and other bladder related conditions receive natural treatment to get back their urinary control.

Men come to us with a variety of issues ranging from urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, nocturia, prostate related incontinence (such as after a prostatectomy, turp procedure or following prostate cancer radiation therapy), bladder pain syndrome (interstitial cystitis), chronic prostatitis pain syndrome, erectile dysfunction and testicular pain.  Bladder control and pelvic pain are both treatable problems that physical therapy can help by giving you natural and effective exercises and other rehabilitative treatments.  Men often think that only women have pelvic floor muscles and experience incontinence, but this is not true.  The male pelvic floor muscle system is similar to, but not the same, as the female muscles.  Your muscles can experience problems holding in your urine and by retraining these muscles as well as the other components of your bladder control, through natural, effective physical therapy methods, you can resolve your incontinence.   If you are struggling with urinary incontinence, call us at 616-516-4334 or contact us here to learn more about our male incontinence physical therapy program.   We offer treatment in person in Grand Rapids, Michigan or via telehealth for those who qualify.

Our licensed physical therapists provide you whole body treatment that includes exercise based care and manual therapy methods to address your spine, hips, posture, breathing, ribcage, core muscles, pelvic floor muscle strength & coordination and movement patterns.

We are fully trained in natural treatments for male urinary incontinence treatment.  We have not adapted our women’s health physical therapy to men.  Instead, we have completed post-doctoral training specific to bladder control, prostate issues and male pelvic pain physical therapy.  Our PTs are also orthopedic physical therapists, meaning that we have experience treating every foot, knee, hip, back, neck, shoulder or arm problem you may also have.  Turns out that when a man is having urinary incontinence, these other areas, such as the knees and hips, can be part of the problem. Therefore, we provide you a customized treatment program based on your specific findings so you can naturally heal your urinary incontinence.  This whole-body treatment approach for male urinary incontinence improves your overall strength, balance, posture, bladder control system, pain and flexibility.  It also delivers you results that are lasting.   If you would like to learn more about our natural physical therapy treatment for male incontinence, offered in-person in Grand Rapids or via telehealth, call our office today at 616-516-4334 to speak with one of our staff members or contact us here.

Male incontinence often involves pelvic floor dysfunction, meaning the bladder control muscles are not working well.  Physical therapy can help get you dry again.

The pelvic floor muscles provide you the ability to hold in your urine.  They work in coordination with other muscles, like your abdominals, diaphragm, hip muscles and others.  What we often find in our male patients is that they have multiple treatable aspects contributing to their incontinence.  You may need exercises to strength and retrain the pelvic floor muscles.  Or, you may need exercises to lengthen and relax these pelvic floor muscles.   Your care begins with an evaluation that will determine what is wrong with your bladder control and how to correct this.  We will also assess your hips, lower back, abdomen, rib cage, posture and movement patterns to determine how these are contributing to your urine leakage.  Men who experience urinary incontinence have tremendous ability to respond very well to the natural treatments that our licensed physical therapists offer.  If you would like to learn more about our treatment, call us at 616-516-4334 or contact us here.

Some men push their pee out instead of relaxing when urinating.  This strains your pelvic floor muscles.

Over time the habit of pushing urine out can overwhelm the pelvic floor muscles and lead to leakage.  Pushing pee out is especially common in men who rush when they need to urinate.  It is also common with men who experience “shy bladder”, meaning they don’t feel comfortable urinating in a public bathroom and they cannot get their urine stream to begin naturally.  So, to get your flow started, these men resort of harmful pushing.  The pushing urine out will strain the pelvic floor and can cause post-void dribbing, meaning you leak urine after you just urinated.  Our physical therapists will evaluate your system to determine if your muscles have been strained and can provide a physical therapy program to rehabilitate them.  By working with you to help you learn how to urinate in a manner that does not strain your pelvic floor, you will retrain these muscles and the bladder control can improve.  We understand this can be an embarrassing problem, if you would like to speak with one of our discreet and knowledgable staff members to learn more about our treatment for male incontinence, offered in-person in Grand Rapids or via telehealth, call our office today at 616-516-4334  or contact us here.

Other men have pelvic floor muscles that become very stiff and tight.  Our natural physical therapy treatments for male urinary incontinence help these muscles to function again.

This is especially common in men we see who experience chronic constipation, IBS, high stress or anxiety, low back pain or find that they are just not flexible people.  While men do not experience incontinence as often as women, this is a common problem to experience and you are not alone.  Some men experience chronic pelvic pain that causes them to experience incontinence.  Other times the male incontinence is directly related to prostatectomy surgery after a prostate cancer diagnosis.  Our licensed physical therapists are here to help you recover your bladder control and resolve incontinence with natural methods, such as exercise based treatments.  In contrast to surgery or medication, our natural treatment for male urinary incontinence does not come with risky side effects.   Our specialty in male pelvic health and male incontinence can give you confidence that you are getting care from someone who knows how to provide physical therapy for male incontinence.   Our PTs have post-graduate education and experience specifically for male pelvic health and bladder rehabilitation.  If you would like to learn more about our treatment for male incontinence, offered in-person in Grand Rapids or via telehealth, call our office today at 616-516-4334 to speak with one of our staff members or contact us here.

Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction + improper bladder habits combined with stress, constipation, a tendency towards stiffness or tightness can lead to male urinary incontinence.  Natural physical therapy treatment, that includes corrective exercises and behavioral changes to optimize bladder habits, helps our male patients get back their bladder control.

In physical therapy to treat a man’s incontinence, our licensed physical therapists determine what is causing the incontinence and develop a natural, holistic treatment approach to resolving this.  We will teach you how to resolve pelvic floor dysfunction, pushing your pee out, straining when peeing and more.  Often we work to improve your posture, spine, pelvis and ribcage alignment so your bladder control is enhanced.  Sometimes we are treating your lower back or thoracic spine, because nerves there influence bladder function and control.  Other times we are treating your hips because the hip muscles greatly influence bladder control.  Our holisitic, comprehensive treatment methods will include manual therapy techniques and exercise based treatment.  We also teach you what to work on at home. These natural treatments for male urinary incontinence include stretching, strengthening, balance exercises, postural correction, behavioral changes for how your manage your bladder and more. Our goal is to restore your bladder control and resolve any pain (if you have any) and get you back to being active and confident.  If you would like to speak with one of our knowledgeable staff members about our treatment for male incontinence, offered in-person in Grand Rapids or via telehealth, call our office today at 616-516-4334 to speak with one of our staff members or contact us here.

Physical Therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction helps resolves urinary incontinence.  Our male urinary incontinence natural treatments include strengthening exercises, stretches, hip and spine mobility exercises, behavioral training to improve your bladder habits, care to address constipation and other methods that may help you recover your bladder control.

Our male patients who have any incontinence or abdominal, back or pelvic pain benefit from our ability to assess and treat your pelvic floor muscles, hips, low back and other areas.  The pelvic floor muscles line the base of your pelvic bones and often contribute to bladder issues (incontinence, urgency and frequency, overactive bladder, nocturia, urge incontinence, bladder pain) and pelvic pain (tailbone pain, SI joint pain, low back pain, abdominal pain, perineal pain, tip of penis pain, etc.).  These muscles work in coordination with your low back, abdominals, inner thighs and hips, which is why our comprehensive natural treatments to all of these areas are needed to truly improve your bladder control.  Our licensed physical therapists will assess your pelvic floor muscles and other areas, determine the problem and develop a customized natural treatment program that helps you rehabilitate these muscles and restore bladder control.  If you are interested in learning more about physical therapy for male incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain or other condition, you can reach out to our staff at 616-516-4334 or contact us here.

Once patients find us, they tell us they have relief knowing that their incontinence can be improved.  And, they’re grateful to receive the natural, holistic care that resolves other issues, like lower back pain, hip problems and bad posture.

If  any of this sounds like you, then you’ve found the right physical therapy place to help your incontinence.  We love this work and have been devoted to helping men who experience pelvic pain or incontinence.  If you are wanting to avoid surgery or medications that carry harmful side effects, our natural treatment for male incontinence provides you a path forward.  We understand you may have questions about this treatment and might not fully understand what physical therapy involves to help men with incontinence.  Our helpful staff members are here to answer your questions or explain more about our natural treatments for physical therapy, including how we can teach you what to do to help yourself at home.  We provide physical therapy treatment for male incontinence in-person in Grand Rapids or via telehealth for those who qualify.  Please call our office today at 616-516-4334 to speak with one of our staff members or contact us here.
